At Delator Investigation Training we are excited to offer a virtual online workshop on the skills to successfully conduct Skip Tracing and opensource intelligence gathering. This is a must for investigators who are working within the investigation industry. The virtual workshop will be held from 9am to 4pm (1 hour lunch break) on Tuesday the 1 October 2024.

What is Skip Tracing?

Skip Tracing is the process of finding or locating a person who is missing or hard to find. If someone has skipped town, or if they’ve moved from their last known address without providing a new one, these skills will assist you to locate them.

There are several reasons why you may need a Skip Trace. Whether you are a Solicitor, a Collection Agency, or looking to track down an old friend or an estranged family member.

  • Web Browsers:
    Learn how to maximise the potential of web browsers in skip tracing. with “Use of Paid/Unpaid Databases” eg Id4me, Detective Desk, Land Title, Occupation & Professional Registers.

  • Browser Extensions/Add-ons:
    Discover powerful browser extensions and add-ons that enhance skip tracing efforts. You'll learn how to use tools that help in data scraping, managing multiple profiles, tracking online activities, and increasing efficiency in your investigations.

  • Reverse Image Search:
    Understand the nuances of reverse image search to identify and locate individuals based on images. This technique involves using platforms like Google Images and specialized tools to trace the origins of photos, detect duplicates, and uncover hidden online profiles.

  • Geolocating:
    Develop the skills to pinpoint a person’s location using digital clues. Geolocating involves interpreting data from social media, photos, and online check-ins to determine a subject's whereabouts, which can be crucial in locating someone who has gone off the grid.

  • Image Analysis (Exif Data):
    Learn how to analyse metadata, also known as Exif data, embedded in images to extract valuable information such as the date, time, and GPS coordinates of when and where a photo was taken. This data can often provide crucial leads in locating an individual.

  • Dorking (Google Dorks):
    Master the art of Google Dorking—a technique that uses specific search queries to find information that isn't easily accessible through standard searches. You'll learn how to use advanced operators to uncover hidden data, locate documents, and gather intelligence from websites that can aid in skip tracing.

  • Evidence Collection:
    Gain a comprehensive understanding of how to collect and preserve evidence legally and ethically during skip tracing investigations. This includes capturing screenshots, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring that digital evidence is admissible in legal proceedings.

Each of these modules will be taught with practical, real-world examples and hands-on exercises to ensure you can apply these skills directly in your professional work as an investigator.

Your subject matter expert is Mark WOODS

Mark’s career started in the Australian Defence Force as a communication specialist, then after 21 years he worked with various organisations including the United Nations and the Australian Public Service.

Mark is a licenced Investigation and Security Agent in South Australia and is a member of Australian Institute of Professional Investigators and is currently the SA Chapter President of the AIPI.
